Most linking problems come from the browser using the wrong signed-in account, missing Page access, an incomplete Instagram setup, or blocked authorization scripts.
Choose a different Facebook or Instagram account
The authorization screen may reuse the account already signed in to your browser instead of asking you to log in again.- Open Facebook and Instagram in separate browser tabs.
- Sign out of the account you do not want to connect.
- Sign in to the account that owns or manages the correct Page and Instagram account.
- Return to Accounts in Overlap and start the connection again.
A Facebook Page is missing
Check each of the following:- Confirm the destination is a Facebook Page, not a personal profile.
- In Facebook, switch into the Page and open Settings & privacy → Settings → Page setup → Page access.
- Confirm the Facebook profile used for linking has access to create and manage Page content and linked accounts. Learn about Facebook Page access.
- Restart the linking flow and approve every requested permission. If Facebook offers a Page-selection step, select every Page you want available in Overlap.
- Allow pop-ups for the Overlap linking page.
A newly created Page or account may not appear immediately. Wait at least an hour before retrying. In some cases, Facebook or Instagram may take five to seven days before allowing a new account to connect and publish. Complete the account setup and use it normally during that time.
Instagram is missing or reported as the wrong account type
Instagram publishing requires a professional account connected to a Facebook Page.- In the Instagram mobile app, open Settings and activity → Account type and tools and confirm the account is a Business or Creator account.
- Open the connected Facebook Page and confirm the intended Instagram account appears under its linked-account settings.
- If the Page is connected to the wrong Instagram account, correct that connection in Facebook or Instagram first.
- Return to Accounts in Overlap and reconnect Instagram.
The authorization window will not load
The browser must load Facebook’s authorization scripts and open a sign-in window. If the screen stays blank, reports that packages could not load, or closes unexpectedly:- allow pop-ups and cross-site sign-in for the linking page
- temporarily pause an ad blocker or strict tracking protection
- disconnect a VPN and retry
- try a current version of Chrome, Safari, Edge, or Firefox
- in Edge, use Balanced tracking prevention
- in Firefox, use Standard Enhanced Tracking Protection
Facebook asks you to verify the login again
Open Facebook directly in a new tab, sign out, and sign back in. Complete any CAPTCHA, identity confirmation, or security prompt Facebook presents. Then refresh Overlap and restart linking. If Facebook requires a Page security check, complete it from a desktop browser before reconnecting. Facebook may also require two-factor authentication, location confirmation, or business verification for Pages with broader reach.“Session invalid” or an existing authorization blocks linking
An old authorization can conflict with a new connection.- In Instagram, open Settings and activity → Website permissions → Apps and websites.
- Remove the existing publishing authorization associated with the connection you created through Overlap.
- Return to Accounts and connect again.
“Login from an embedded browser is disabled”
On Android, open the Facebook app and enable external links under Settings → Media → Links open externally, then retry the Overlap linking flow. If the error persists on Android, or if you encounter it on iOS, complete the connection from a desktop browser. There is no equivalent iOS setting that reliably enables this embedded login flow.If linking succeeds but the account later disconnects or shows a restriction, continue with Disconnected or Restricted Accounts.
