Bluesky uses an app password for external clients. Do not enter the main password you use to sign in to Bluesky.
Create an app password
- Sign in to Bluesky and open Settings.
- Open Privacy and security → App passwords.
- Choose Add app password and give it a recognizable name such as
Overlap.
- Copy the generated password. It normally uses the format
xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.
Treat the app password as sensitive. It grants access to the Bluesky account until you revoke it.
Connect Bluesky
- In Overlap, open Accounts and select Bluesky.
- Choose Connect.
- Enter the Bluesky handle shown on the profile, such as
name.bsky.social or a custom-domain handle.
- Enter the newly created Bluesky app password.
- Submit the authorization form.
- Return to Overlap and confirm the account appears as Connected.
Use a dedicated app password, not your main Bluesky password. If the app password is exposed or no longer needed, revoke it from Bluesky settings and relink with a new one.
